The Transfăgărăşan road (DN 7C, according to Romanian road terminology) is going to be opened in the next few days, officials of Romanian National Road Company (CNAIR) says. Like every year, all depends on the weather conditions.
These days, road workers are removing the snow from last sections of both south and north slopes of the Făgăraş mountains. According to CNAIR officials, no more than 1.300 meters of snow-covered road remain to be cleaned up, as of June 3-rd 2022.

On this high altitude section of the road (2.000 meters and above) the snow layer reaches thicknesses between 4 and 6 meters, so the job is not the easiest to perform.
Last year, the road has been opened for all traffic in June 28 and stayed so until October 25.
If you are planning a trip in this area, or maybe a holiday, please be aware that in several weekends the road is going to be closed (some sections only, during some hours) in order to allow various sports competitions to take place, such as triathlon, motoring, cycling and so on.
Please get informed well in advance, to avoid any upset.
