The Transfagarasan road (DN 7C), one of the most iconic road in the world, will be fully open Friday morning, announced Cristian Pistol, general manager of the Romanian Road Company CNAIR.
“Today I signed the decision to establish the CNAIR Special Commission for the Transfagarasan road (DN 7C). On Thursday, June 11, the commission will head up the mountain to inspect every kilometer of this high altitude road and determine when traffic can be safely reopened.
If road conditions and weather permit, I estimate that the Transfagarasan will open on Friday, June 12, 2026, at 9 am.
One thing to keep in mind for those eagerly awaiting the winding roads: on the section between Piscul Negru and Balea Cascada (Balea Waterfall), traffic will be permitted only between 7 am and 9 pm. “For everyone’s safety, on a route where the mountain has its own rules,” said Cristian Pistol.
From today through Friday, the weather forecast calls for nice weather in that area, with the possible exception of some light rain. So there’s a very good chance that starting Friday morning, cars and motorcycles will be able to travel the entire length of the Transfagarasan.
For the last two years, 2023 and 2024, the Transfagarasan road was opened during the month of June. On June 7 and June 24, respectively.
UPDATE, Thursday, June 11
Due to forecasts of heavy rain and storms in the DN 7C Transfagarasan area over the next 24 hours, the reopening of the high altitude section of the road will be delayed by a several hours. It is estimated that the entire road could reopen tomorrow, Friday, June 12, around noon.
